You love your Toyota Crown and you would not trade it for the world, unless it was for a Nissan Cube or Toyota Celica GT-4.  But what if you did opt to trade your Crown in for a high performance vehicle like the Skyline?  Is the cost of the insurance going to drain your pocketbook to the point that it is not worth buying the car you want?  This is the biggest problem people face when it comes to performance vehicles.  Insurance is expensive when you are driving a car with intercoolers and 1600cc injectors.  And if it happens to be an imported car, you are looking at an additional 30% being tacked on the price.

Unfortunately, you cannot get away with leaving out details about your car when you call to get an auto insurance quote.  It is illegal and you could be seriously penalized for it.  However, you can keep your insurance at a minimum without having to sacrifice for a car that is less than what you want.  Here are a few options to consider when you are pricing auto insurance that may cover a high performance car.

Car owners clubs: many car owners clubs have insurance companies that they work with that gives them a sizeable discount on their vehicle insurance.  Your car may need to meet certain criteria to get the discount, but you could conceivably save anywhere from $200 to $400 dollars.

Niche market policies: more and more insurance companies are offering policies for cars that fit into very specific niches, such as modified, standard, trailer queen, hot hatch, or other categories.  Insurance companies are starting to see that people do care for Hiace Wagon for sale they bring into the country.

No Claims Discount policy: check and see if your insurance agent offers no claims discounts on their policies.  If they do and if you qualify for it, you could easily afford the insurance on your new high performance vehicle and save yourself close to 60% of the cost.

Security features: find out how much of a discount you can receive on your vehicle if you add an anti-theft system to it.  Most imported Japanese used cars do not have any form of anti-theft device on them since car crime is considerably lower in Japan than anywhere else in the world.  You could get a reduction in your premium by adding a security system.

The car itself: if all else fails, look into a sportier model of an alternative vehicle that is not considered high performance.
